Southern Family Markets Employees Learn the Value of Beef Training Camp
As recently featured in the August 12, 2009, edition of The Wall Street Journal, Southern Family Markets and their Piggly Wiggly banner stores recently hosted a Beef Training Camp. They held the training at the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association in Montgomery, AL, on April 2, 2009. Sessions included:
- From Pasture to Plate – Cattle Industry in the Southeast
- Introduction to Beef Value Cuts Video
- Consumer Trends
- Nutritional Benefits of Beef
- Ground Beef
- Steaks
- Beef for Grilling
- Recipe Ready Beef
- Customer Service
- Food Safety
- Preparation and Cooking Beef
Approximately 80 people including the district manager, store and meat managers and the company’s senior leadership from Southern Family Markets attended.
Here’s what some of the attendees had to say:
“With so many hot-button issues in the marketplace today, we often rely on a market manager or a meat cutter to speak with a customer about an issue that may have been in the news. Beef Training Camp information is impactful and basic enough that our meat team can embrace it and start sharing what they’ve learned with customers as soon as they return to their store.”
- Carey Otwell
Director of Meat
Southern Family Markets
“This meeting was useful because it was a refresher course in cooking methods and specialty cuts. One thing that stuck in my mind was becoming more customer service focused rather than productivity focused. Meetings like this help us communicate better and train our employees.”
- Mike
Market Manager
Southern Family Markets
“Beef Training Camp was very interesting. I learned something in each area of the presentation. I especially enjoyed the demonstration videos. I went back to my stores and cut some of the Kabobs made from the beef strips. We sold two packs out of the three I made.”
